All-Around Excellence
Oakland Athletics says in its mission, above all else, we produce graduates, champions and friends of the university. It is a motto that the Golden Grizzlies live by. Each and every year, OU produces team and individual league titles, along with multiple postseason appearances.
» In the classroom, Oakland led The Summit League with 202 Academic All-League selections in 2009-10, while several OU student-athletes received ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District and All-America honors. OU has led The Summit League in Academic All-League selections in five consecutive seasons.
» Just completing its 11th year at the Division I level, Oakland has won 20 Summit League regular season championships, 38 tournament titles and made 26 NCAA Championship appearances.
» OU has captured nine team national titles, along with 161 individual NCAA crowns, second only to Stanford University.
» Student-Athletes have earned 232 All-America accolades and 84 players have been tabbed player/athlete of the year.
2009-10 Highlights
WOMEN'S GOLF
Liz Ecker posted her second straight top-five finish at league championship and earned all-league honors.
MEN'S GOLF
Michael Coriasso garnered all-league second team accolades after tallying a T10 finish at league championship.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
Keith Benson was named Mid-Major Player of the Year, Summit League Player of the Year and garnered Associated Press All-America honorable mention honors after leading the Grizzlies to a pair of Summit League titles and an NCAA tournament berth.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
Bethany Watterworth was named to The Summit League All-Freshman Team after guiding the women's basketball team to its fourth consecutive top-2 finish inside The Summit League. The Golden Grizzlies have posted 24 straight winning seasons in league action.
MEN'S TRACK
Jason Bigelow became the first-ever NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships qualifier after winning the 1500 meters at the league championship and posting a top-24 finish at the NCAA Regional Track Championships.
WOMEN'S TRACK
Micah Jones advanced to the NCAA East Track and Field Regional after finishing runner-up at The Summit League Championship in the long jump.
SOFTBALL
Kelsey Krych broke the single-season school record with 34 swipes in 37 attempts. Krych was named All-Summit League second team for her efforts.
BASEBALL
Aaron Wick tossed the first-ever Division I no-hitter for the Golden Grizzlies last season. OU made the conference tournament by sweeping Southern Utah in the final league series.
CROSS COUNTRY
Lia Jones became the third runner in school history to earn All-Region honors, finishing 18th. The men's team finished third at the league championship, while the women posted a fourth-place finish.
MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
Anders Jensen earned his second straight Swimmer of the Meet honor after capturing three titles in the 200 butterfly, 100 and 200 backstroke.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
Agnes Solan won three individual titles at The Summit League Championship en route to being named Swimmer of the Meet. Oakland won its 11th straight Summit League title and 16th consecutive conference championship, going back to the D-II days.
MEN'S SOCCER
Mitch Hildebrandt was named Summit League Defensive Player of the Year after leading the men's soccer team to its eighth Summit League title at 5-1-1. OU is 15-2-2 over the last three seasons in league play.
